Magufuli defends Kikwete on foreign travel
UNION presidential candidate on CCM
ticket, Dr John Magufuli, has defended President Jakaya Kikwete’s
foreign trips, saying those criticizing them, including politicians,
should be ignored.
He said a number of development projects
that have been implemented by the government were donor funded and
there was no way such funding could be obtained without travelling
overseas
Addressing residents of Chamwino District at the Mvumi Mission Grounds, the presidential candidate said that a number of projects, including road networks that connect the whole country were due to such trips.
He noted that the recent move by the United States-based Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to agree to release nearly 1 trillion/- for power projects was also a clear indication of positive results of such trips by the president.
He affirmed that it was absurd, cheap politics and illogical for anyone who is wise to blame President Kikwete over such trips as their results were crystal clear.
“We are now planning to electrify villages; we are going to use the MCC funds to achieve this; I am shocked by those who say that these trips are worthless,” he told his audience, cautioning them to shun politicians who criticise each and everything.
He noted that it was impossible for any person to stay indoors and yet wants to register development. A number of politicians, especially those from the opposition outfit, have been speaking ill of President Kikwete’s trips, saying that they were worthless.
Dr Magufuli also praised former Prime Minister John Malecela for being patriotic and loyal to the party, saying that his contribution to the country’s development was exemplary. He noted that Mzee Malecela had eyed the presidency in 2005 but did not sail through but he still remained loyal to the party.
Dr Magufuli added that the veteran politician had even lost in the 2010 party preferential polls but remained tolerant and loyal and did not cross over to the opposition.
He blasted defectors, warning voters to reject them as they were only out to cater for their own interests at any cost. Mzee Malecela himself said at the rally that CCM was still a powerful party with vision to transform their lives unlike the opposition, which preached change while their own track record was questionable.
He requested CCM members to wisely utilise the remaining days and go door to door asking for votes to ensure that the party records a landslide victory next month. Earlier, when addressing Ismani residents in Iringa Region, Dr Magufuli called on Tanzanians to be extra careful with politicians who seek votes on tribal lines.
He said that asking votes by basing on tribalism only meant running short of persuasion power. He called on the people to refuse to be misled. He reiterated that voters should be careful with politicians who are making remarks meant to divide them along tribal, religious and political lines.
He reminded them that the work done by former leaders of uniting the country will remain his key agenda. Dr Magufuli further promised that if elected, he would ensure that all villages, which are not connected to electricity will be supplied with the utility as soon as possible.
